Providence Sustainable Housing Design Competition
Providence, Rhode Island | 2008
Kina and her co-collaborators’ design proposal provides integrated access and privacy separation, as well as shared outdoor spaces for all neighborhood block residents.
Housing design examples are characterized by outdoor territories, gardens, and site relationships. There is a built-in flexibility of use for a range of tenants: growing, changing, and aging families; singles; roommates; and live/work communities.
The design drew from a recognition that many green strategies do not necessarily cost more, but instead are based on best practices resulting from early decisions made in the site planning and building design phase.
