Portland ‘Living Smart’ Design Competition
Portland, Oregon | 2004
The design focus for this competition was to develop a systematic approach to the inhabitation of 25-foot-wide lots in Portland. The team proposed that the spatial qualities of place and materials can be emphasized in the context of a singular prototype — this design is one possibility from a series of variations.
The structural system allows for distinct modulation of each dwelling. The construction utilizes robust base structures and services to provide raw loft-like spaces for differing uses and changing needs over time.
This project was one of 49 selected for publication in the Design Excellence Monograph.
