Canby School District

Canby, Oregon | 2021-2022

While working with Mahlum Architects, Kina managed multiple projects at varying phases in collaboration with Canby School District.   In this endeavor, she worked closely with approximately 8 - 20 colleagues depending on the design phase and point in the overall timeline. Throughout she worked closely with senior project architects and designers to create beautiful as well as practical and functional spaces desired by the District while meeting budgetary requirements.

The District sought a 20 year “look ahead” masterplanning and strategic visioning plan to serve their Spanish and English speaking student body; multiple building renovations across their elementary and middle schools; and a new science-forward high school wing to compliment their robust career-focused curriculum. They also wished to bring maker and flexible creative spaces to their lower grade bands, and Kina and her team worked closely with the district administrators to engage faculty from multiple schools to bring them into the decision making process. This resulted in flexible-use spaces with integral digital and analog technologies to support indoor-outdoor education, access to creative outlets for kids with varied learning styles, and cross-disciplinary teaching opportunities.
